How do you handle the business side?

I'm doing some research into how working performers deal with bookings, quotes, chasing money and all the admin around the actual work. About five minutes. I'll send everyone who wants it a summary of what the whole group said.

There are no right answers and nothing here is a sales pitch — I'm genuinely just trying to understand how this works for people.

What happens to your answers
  • I collect your answers, plus your name, email and Instagram only if you choose to give them at the end.
  • It's used to understand how performers run their business. Nothing else.
  • Only I see individual responses. They are never sold, shared, published or passed to anyone.
  • Only combined, anonymous summaries get shared — nothing that identifies you, your business or your clients. If I want to quote something you wrote, I'll ask you first.
  • Your details are used to send you the results, and to arrange a call if you ask for one. No marketing list, ever.
  • Responses are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted. Email dimipkaram8264@gmail.com any time and I'll delete yours — no reason needed.

About your work

What do you do?Required
Do you play an instrument or sing?
Do you perform on your own, or with other people?
In the last 12 months, roughly how many paid bookings did you do?
In your busy season, how many gigs do you play in a typical week?
What share of your income comes from this work?
What's a typical fee for one booking?

How you run it today

Think about your most recent booking — how did that client find you?
How did you send them a price?
Which of these do you currently pay for?

Tick all that apply.

Roughly how much do you spend per month on tools for the business side?

What actually goes wrong

In the last 12 months, which of these actually happened to you?

Tick all that apply — be honest, it's anonymous.

How many hours a week go on the business side — messages, quotes, invoices, scheduling?

Getting paid

Do you take a deposit before the event?
How do clients usually pay you?

Tick all that apply.

Have you ever asked a client to pay you online — a link, an online invoice, anything?

Whatever actually happened, including if it went badly.

Would you use a link that showed your quote and took a card deposit?
Which would you choose?

How much you'd let software do

Would you let software write a reply to a client enquiry for you to check before sending?
Would you let it send that reply automatically, without you reading it first?
Would you let it chase a late payment on your behalf?

Price, and where you spend your time

If one tool handled your enquiries, quotes, calendar, contracts and invoices — and did most of the typing for you — what's the most you'd pay per month?

Be blunt. This is the most useful thing you can tell me — the reasons people don't use a thing are much harder to guess than the reasons they do.

Where do you go for advice about the business side of your work?

How did you hear about the last new tool you started using for work?

One last thing

When you send a client a quote or an invoice, would you rather…

I'm working on a tool for this, and I'm trying to work out where to put the effort.

Staying in touch

Before you leave your details

  • Only I see this. Your name, email and Instagram are never sold, shared or published.
  • They're used for two things only: sending you the results, and arranging a call if you ask for one.
  • No marketing list. Email dimipkaram8264@gmail.com any time and I'll delete everything you sent.

Optional. Leave it blank if you'd rather stay anonymous.

Optional — a short paid call

How this part works

I'd like to talk properly to a small number of people. Ten minutes, whenever suits you, on whatever you prefer — phone, WhatsApp, video.

Not everyone who says yes will get a call. I can only do a handful, and I'm choosing a spread — different kinds of work, different countries, different ways of running things. It isn't first come first served, and it isn't about who's biggest or busiest.

If you're picked, I'll message you to arrange a time and send $3 as a thank you for the ten minutes. If you're not picked, you've lost nothing — you still get the results, same as everyone.

Saying yes here just puts you in the pool. You can still say no later, or simply not reply.

Would you like to be considered?

Your answers go straight to me. Nothing is shared with anyone else.
